Reiki works due to human body being a natural electric conductor – electrical impulses are constantly used throughout the body. This current creates a series of biomagnetic fields around the body, known as biofield or aura. Energy healers emanate biomagnetic field from their hands during healing (Seto A, Kusaka C, Nakazato S et al 1992: Detection of Extraordinary Large Biomagnetic Field Strength From Human Hands). This healing energy can be measured and quantified (Zimmerman J, 1990: Laying-On-Of Hands Healing and Therapeutic Touch: A Testable Theory). As Reiki healers channel energy external to the healer (Reiki energy of the Universe), the frequency range of Reiki energy goes far beyond the extremely low-frequency spectrum. The extremely low-frequency electromagnetic spectrum was found to be particularly effective in stimulating recovery in soft and hard tissues (Sisken B F, Walker J 1995: Therapeutic Aspects of Electromagnetic Fields For Soft-Tissue Healing). A wider frequency energy range helps Reiki healers to benefit not only physical, but also emotional, mental and spiritual conditions.
Each organ, tissue and even cell in the body has its particular vibrational frequency which can change due to damage caused to that part of the body (Pienta KJ, Coffey DS 1991: Cellular Harmonic Information Transfer Through A Tissue Tensegrity Matrix System). Reiki energy heals by two main methods. The primary method is when Reiki energy overtime helps the organ, tissue or cell regain its ‘healthy’ vibration. This is done by directly channeling the vibrational frequency needed for repair. The secondary method is when Reiki healing is helping the body ‘heal itself’ via alerting the brain and cells that a certain body part needs repair. This leads to certain cells being attracted to the damaged area, and the internal self-healing process begins.
The following study shows that, by detaching from one’s emotions, healers are able to ‘generate some sort of “magnetic current” or force’:
‘As emotions occur, Bengston [the energy healer] merely observes the emotion, without getting caught up in it, while cycling through a series of images. According to multiple sources and traditions (e.g., psychology, spiritual, occult), an individual can free up his or her energy and generate “power” by witnessing/observing his/her emotions and bodily feelings without attachment (e.g., Mindell, 1993, Schrödter, 1999, Windrider, 2006). The combining of emotional awareness with strong mental imagery appears to be a potent mix, generating some sort of “magnetic current” or force. [Moreover,] Dr. Joseph Gemasser, a hands-on healer, observed in his own work that “emotional forces are mobilized by meditation, switching on the ‘life currents’ which are passed to the client” (Schrödter, 1999)…According to Butler (1977), practitioners learn to redirect their emotional energy, whereby “the available magnetism may be increased not merely by the release of suppressed energies but by an increase in the actual intake of those energies” …. We speculate that, through development of his mental and emotional bodies, Bengston has learned, in shamanic language, “how to generate power” (Mindell, 1993). The specific content of the images may also be important…[Furthermore,] Tiller, Green, Parks, and Anderson (1995) propose that, ‘training and practice develops in the healer a somewhat automatic internal power buildup that discharges periodically and generates a very large electrical voltage pulse in the physical body”… Baines (1918) proposed that the human body functions as an electrical condenser, accumulating charge generated by cell currents in the body. Our preliminary data suggests that bioenergy healing and mind–body practices such as Tai Chi [and Reiki] may help release accumulated charge’. (Margaret M.Moga, William F.
