In Holistic Healing Therapy, we strongly believe in nature’s potential in holistically healing mind, body, and soul. That is why we are most pleased about the spreading of the awareness about organic food, its benefits for the health and wellbeing, as well as potential dangers of non-organic food (more information coming up in the post about organic products!)
Currently an increasing number of companies are starting to switch their production to organic. However, while there are quiet strict regulations on organic food in the UK, not all products need to go through rigorous checks to be named “organic” – there are no strict regulations for organic cosmetics products, which means that, sadly for consumers, cosmetics products can easily be named “organic” while not containing much of the organic produce…
So, what can consumers do in this case, and how can this problem be avoided? The solution is to look for the products approved by the Soil Association (ever seen their logo on organic products in the shops?), which insures the organic origins of the product (you should also always be able to see the percentage of the organic compound in the product you are buying!)
“Soil Association Certification is our independent certification body. It carries out inspections and awards organic certification to farms and businesses that meet our standards. You will notice our symbol and certification number (UK 5) on many items of organic produce. Our certification business is the UK’s oldest and most experienced and licenses over 70% of the organic food on sale here”, https://www.soilassociation.org/what-we-do/organic-standards/
This month (September) the Soil Association encourages everyone to try to incorporate more organic products in their lives – whether it will be replacing your regular milk with an organic option, or maybe switching to an organic all-natural shampoo! This promotion is aimed at raising awareness about organic products, as well as encouraging organic production.
“And going organic is easier than you’d think. Look for the logo this Organic September and you’ll not only be helping to protect our vital wildlife and reducing your exposure to potentially harmful pesticides and chemicals – you’ll also be helping to support the farmers who work hard to grow our food for generations to come.
Organic means higher levels of animal welfare, lower levels of pesticides, no manufactured herbicides or artificial fertilisers and more environmentally sustainable management of the land and natural environment – this means more wildlife!”
On top of that, the Soil Association does regular competitions, offers, and promotions from your favourite organic brands this month, and once you subscribe to their September newsletter you will automatically be enrolled into a prize draw, where a winner will have a chance to win IPad Mini 4 equipped with cookbook applications!
