There are lots of benefits of gardening, such as grounding and reconnecting with nature, exercise, fresh air, and others. You can read more about themĀ here. On top of all the health and wellbeing effects, gardening can also be lots of fun, and also widely accessible!
For instance, to plant an avocado plant, you only need to have a shot glass (or a very small glass or espresso cup), and an avocado (widely available in food shops). You might also need soil, organic compost, and a pod if you are planting it inside your house/flat.
Here are the instructions:
- Eat your avocado (unless you have an allergy – in that case, ask anyone without an allergy to eat it for you. Just to let you know – we are always happy to help you with that task!), and leave the seed.
- Put some water in shot glass, and then put the avocado seed in it. You wouldn’t want too much water so that the seed is completely covered, but too little water will not produce the desired effect – best aim for a half or a bit more than half-covered in water.
- Wait for a couple of weeks to sprout. As it sprouts, you can place it in a pod with soil and organic compost (if you like), or in the soil in your garden fertilized with organic compost.
- Water, take care, and love!
Sometimes not all seeds sprout, so it might take you a few tries to see the seed sprouting. But once it sprouts, it is very exciting! Our plant is still quiet young, but we hope that it can grow well and, maybe, one day we can have our own organic avocados! YUMS!
Have you ever tried growing an avocado from a seed? Was it successful? Do you think our tips helped?
We would love to hear from you!
