Summer Solstice 2017 – Gong Bath & Meditation
Summer solstice indicates the longest day in the year – after the summer solstice days will get shorter, and nights longer. It is often thought of as the beginning of summer, for by the solstice farmers have already done their planting.
Celebrating the solstice has been a part of different traditions worldwide long before records began. It is significant as it’s related to the change of the seasons but also allows us to get closer to nature. It reminds us that nothing is everlasting and about the changing nature of things. Just as the seasons change, we can also observe ourselves changing, accepting our own nature and coming closer to nature around us.
At the times when we see a lot of separation between people, people and nature, and us and our true beings, it can be very beneficial to re-connect with nature, which can, in turn, help us reconnect with our true selves. At Solstice celebration, we come together to honor nature and its abundance and generosity, as well as our own nature. We see the impermanence of nature being reflected in our own selves, reminding us that nothing is permanent and change is a normal state fo affairs. We stop clinging to things and see which attachments and relationships don’t serve us anymore.
This Summer Solstice we were blessed to celebrate in a beautiful nature reserve – Clandon Wood. Surrounded by wild nature and peaceful, loving atmosphere, it was a perfect place for coming together to celebrate the longest day of the year.
We started the celebration at 4am with a silent meditation watching the sunrise. We greeted the sunrise with the gentle sound of the crystal bowl and the beautiful birds’ songs. We then proceeded to the amazing glass pavilion in the middle of the reserve for a guided meditation and a gong bath, followed by tea and discussion.
The atmosphere of the place was amazingly quiet and peaceful, allowing space and time for healing and self-reflection… An amazing ceremony! Big thanks to Simon from Clandon Wood and the people who came to join us for this beautiful transformative event!
