Spiders play such an important role in our lives – if not for them, we would never be able to get rid of colonies of flies and other insects which tend to come in big numbers in summer. However, many people are scared of these wonderful creatures these days – maybe, it is something about them having six legs, or moving in an unusual to us manner… But if you look closer at a spider, you can find that it is actually a touching, vulnerable, and very cute creature! As soon as spiders sense the danger, they curl up and play dead. They also come in various sizes and colors, which is quiet amazing! And I think that most people would agree that they make awesome webs in the most strange places! And, of course, they help us with the insects!
My point is – instead of looking at spiders as a constant source of fear, discomfort, disgust, or irritation, rather think of them as friendly creatures which help you get rid of flies! Trust me – spiders are always much more scared of you than you are of them (just think of your own size compared to theirs!) It is when we start looking at creatures different from us with due respect and compassion that we start understanding the world around us, the meaning of love and life itself.
Next time you see a spider, just try to greet him/her with respect and, if possible, get him/her to the nearest safest place where he/she can carry on doing his business without the danger of getting accidentally squished by someone. We use a tall glass and a piece of paper underneath to capture spiders and other creatures that might be in danger (flies, bees, butterflies). We then try to release them in their natural habitat – for the spiders, that will be the corners of our house!
Are you scared of spiders? If so, do you think there is a reason behind it? Do you think looking at spiders with respect, gratitude, and compassion might help you fight this fear?
We would love to hear your thoughts!
