About Forest Bathing

Forest Bathing, or shinrin yoku, is a practice originating from Japan that translates as “spending time under the canopy of trees” for health and wellbeing benefits. It uses sensory exercises and mindfulness in nature to promote the sense of calmness, as well as boost health and wellbeing.

Forest Bathing is now widely practised with guides in South Korea, Japan, the USA, the UK, and other countries. In Japan, it is part of the NHS. As more countries are learning about the benefits of spending time in and connecting with nature, forest bathing gains wider application and is now covered in many media sources.

About Forest Bathing+

Forest Bathing+ has been developed by The Forest Bathing Institute founded by Gary and Olga (the founders of Holistic Healing Therapy), and is built upon different areas of emerging science, including the Forest Bathing research by Dr. Qing Li of the Japanese Nippon Medical school (the founder of the Forest Bathing concept), and the Wood Wide Web research by Professor Suzanne Simard from The University of British Columbia. The combination of these two areas, as well as collaboration with various academics, has led to the development of a deeply therapeutic style of Forest Bathing launched by The Forest Bathing Institute, called Forest Bathing+. Forest Bathing+ is also designed to work in harmony with the environment and challenges presented.

Forest Bathing+ involves mindful leisure walks in selected places in nature involving meditation and breathing exercises, grounding, aromatherapy, and focusing on your senses and feelings when exploring the new environment. It also places great importance on peacefully observing animals’ behaviour and plants’ patterns in natural environments.
